Metal and machinery industry

The metal and machinery industry needs almost 500 new workers a year to replace people leaving work because of age. As a whole, the number of jobs will not change in the future, but the need for quality, product and supply managers, engineers, maintenance technicians and mechatronics will increase. The need for finishers, machinists, locksmiths, masters and foremen is decreasing. This change is mainly related to technological and economic development.

There will be more jobs in the metal and machinery industry in the future than graduates with a professional education. Employees are therefore missing in particular in the positions of specialists and managers, where graduates of engineering specialties are expected in particular.

Although there are more graduates than jobs in skilled professions, it is difficult for entrepreneurs to find suitable employees. There are many reasons - on the one hand, graduates" skills do not meet employers" expectations and needs, while on the other hand, good employees go abroad.

Information is based on OSKA's Metal and Machine Industry Workforce and Skills Survey, which forecast industry employment until 2021.
